Position of Leadership
Duties and Requirements
Chaplain Aide
The Chaplain's Aide works with the adult Troop Chaplain to meet the religious needs of Scouts in the troop. He also works to promote the religious emblems program. He reports to the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. These items must be accomplished or completed to the satisfaction of the Troop's Chaplain, or in his/her absence, the Scoutmaster in order to get credit for this position of responsibility. Your review will be done by the Troop's Chaplain, or in his/her absence, the Scoutmaster and will be ongoing during the term of the position.
During his term of office, the Chaplain's Aide must:
- Attend at least 5 campouts
- Attend at least 15 troop meeting
- Attend all PLC meetings
- Attend all Courts of Honor
- Plan and lead chapel services on campouts
- Present an overview of the various religious emblems programs to the troop during the term, instructing members to contact their own clergyperson or religious counselor to guide them in the appropriate study programs
- Earn (or have earned) the appropriate Boy Scout religious emblem for his religion. (The Cub Scout emblem is not sufficient for this requirement.) If the emblem has not been earned by the completion of the term, requirement credit may be given by the Troop Chaplain or Scoutmaster (at their discretion) upon substantial completion of the emblem during the term.
- Make sure religious holidays are considered during troop program planning
- Enthusiastically wear the Scout uniform correctly
- Live by the Scout Oath and Law
- Show Scout spirit
- Set a good example for other Scouts
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Troop Chaplain or in his/her absence, the Scoutmaster
- Be certified by the Troop Chaplain, or in his/her absence, the Scoutmaster that you have adequately completed the duties and requirements of this position
Qualifications for the position of Chaplain Aide
are:
- Age 12 minimum
- Must be First Class Rank or higher
- Must have been an active member of Troop 261 for a
minimum of 1 year
- Must have actively participated in long and short term
camping with Troop 261
- Must have attended Oak Leaf Training
Statement of Commitment:
If appointed to the position of Chaplain Aide, I hereby
promise to cheerfully perform all the duties of my office as stated above and
commit to the above participation requirements. I understand that failure to
honor this commitment during my term of office may result in the loss of my
leadership position and/or the loss of leadership credit toward my rank
advancement.
